How the Dog Fences Works?
The fence has an electric wire fitted with a transmitter and installed underground all around the borders of your acreage or Victoria BC property. This fence system works by giving out a beeping signal which is received by your dog’s radio collar, each time it (the dog) gets too close to the fence. If your dog continues to ignore the signals, a mild static shock is delivered via its collar to stop it from crossing the fence. However, the shock frequency can be adjusted to limit fear or harm to your dog.
Are Electronic Dog Fences Legal in Victoria BC?
An invisible dog fence offers a "fenceless" boundary to your home and yard. For those of us who do not have a fenced in yard, this is one of the best options to keep your pet inside the boundaries without the expense of putting a regular fence around your home.
There are two basic types of an invisible dog fence on the market. There is the wireless type of fence and the electric or underground type of pet fence. The biggest difference is how they are set up, and this article being a general overview, makes reference to both types.
For the electric, also known as electronic, type of fencing, the way it functions is pretty simple. First, a wire is buried around the perimeter of the area you want contained. This wire transmits a radio signal to a lightweight collar that your pet wears. Your canine should be wearing the special collar whenever she is outside in the yard. One main point to emphasize is that your pet must be trained and trained properly for an invisible dog fence to do its job in a safe and effective way. When your canine gets close to the boundary set by the wires, the collar will emit a warning sound letting your pet know he is getting too close. If your pet is properly trained to use the system, he will often not go past this point. However, if the dog goes past the boundary line, the collar will emit a mild static correction to tell your pet that is too far. The correction is not harmful to your pet and should not be viewed as inhumane. It is similar to scooting across the carpet in socks and then touching your best friend.
The other type of invisible dog fence mentioned is the wireless type of dog fencing. These systems have a transmitter that can be located in any safe and dry location like a garage. Instead of wire being buried around the perimeter of your yard, when using a wireless fencing system, you really only need to plug it in and set the area of the boundary. These types of systems are very nice if you need portability with your fencing system. They can be taken with you wherever you go. The way the collar works with a wireless fence is very similar to the electronic type.
There are many people who do not believe that using these types of fencing systems is humane. As long as directions are followed and proper training procedures are implemented, an invisible dog fence offers a very safe and effective way to keep your pet contained. It is also a fraction of the cost of fencing in your entire yard. The collars that come with these types of systems are specially designed to have variable settings of correction. You should use the lowest possible setting that effectively gets the message to your canine. Smaller dogs require lower settings and there are even special models available for little pets.
An invisible dog fence is a great way to keep your pet safe and secure within the boundaries you set. With a little training, your canine will never go past the point of needing correction. Personally, with my pets, the minute they see the collar being put on, they are on their best behavior and enjoy the freedom they get from one of these great systems. If you are thinking one of these products may be right for your canine, please do the proper research and take the time to read about the proper training techniques.
Invisible Dog Fence Brings Several Benefits to the Dog Owner
Do you ever feel the need to protect your dog? Is your beloved dog a menace to its surrounding area or a hazard to itself? If this is the case, it is often recommended that an owner will protect their pesky pet by giving them a garden boundary. There are many methods; wooden fencing, pens and cages, but one of the more controversial and frowned upon methods is electric fencing.
Electric fencing is quite simply a method of containing your dog in a specific and predetermined area by giving them a shock which is intended to surprise them, rather than hurt them. It is set by the owner and is invariably used to hold the dog in its boundaries. There are several methods of doing so.
One of the most popular methods is an electric wire fence. A conductor is used to earth the wire and give it a current, this will give your mischievous dog the small, sharp shock it may need to remain within its allotted area and behave itself. The wire can be easily placed to suit the dog's needs and can convince even the most Houdini of hounds to rethink their bid for freedom. However, if your dog is a thinker, then it may discover a method around its confines. It can discover that by jumping, it doesn't get a shock if the wires it touches are live and he's not on the ground. To solve this, another strand of conductor is run along the fence at the nose-height of the animal and is attached to the earth stake only and not to any of the other lines. When the dog jumps through, even though it is completely off the ground, it will earth out the current by touching the earth wire and a live wire and will therefore receive a shock.
Another method is by getting an electric net fence. It provides a wall around the dog to stop its willful escape attempts, and is not only a stimulus deterrent, but a visual one as well. However, one of the main concerns with this method is how easily the current can seep from the net and into the surrounding area, predominantly attacking nearby vegetation. If this occurs, the main concern is the lack of current running through the net which will invariably result in a much less 'shocking' affect on the dog. Due to this it is quite common for the dogs to bolster enough courage to burst through the net or dig under it. The result can end with your cheeky canine gallivanting around the near vicinity and endangering themselves and others.
To truly treat your pet with the respect and love it deserves, boundaries and strict training needs to occur to ensure they lead a happy and healthy lifestyle. While restrictions are always a sensible idea, it is not requisite to cage in your pet. By using efficient training methods and firm yet gentle guidance, your dog can be trained to respect its masters wants and guidance and will allow man and beast to live to the age old adage of being 'best friends'.
For any further recommendations on safe and efficient methods of restricting your dogs access to unwanted areas, it would be best to seek advice from your veterinary surgeon as the best methods for your dog.
