How the Dog Fences Works?
The fence has an electric wire fitted with a transmitter and installed underground all around the borders of your acreage or Alberta Beach AB property. This fence system works by giving out a beeping signal which is received by your dog’s radio collar, each time it (the dog) gets too close to the fence. If your dog continues to ignore the signals, a mild static shock is delivered via its collar to stop it from crossing the fence. However, the shock frequency can be adjusted to limit fear or harm to your dog.
Are Electronic Dog Fences Legal in Alberta Beach AB?
Many of us with dogs would love to get a fence for our yard. That would allow our dog to have a nice place to run and play without all of the dangers from wandering outside the yard. Fencing in yards can be expensive and very difficult labor, especially for those who have a lot of ground to cover. That is where dog fence technology comes in. There are a few different types of dog fence systems, but we will look specifically at the PetSafe Wireless Dog Fence in this article.
The PetSafe Wireless Dog Fence goes by the model number PIF-300. This is the latest technology that PetSafe has made in the way of dog containment. This is a fantastic do-it-yourself system. For those people who are like me and want the easiest possible installation, this is the product for you. There are no wires to bury, no trenches to dig, and especially no holes for fence posts, concrete, nails, and all of the other things that installing a traditional fence require. With this system, if you can plug it in, you can set it up. The PetSafe Wireless Dog Fence is so portable, you can take it with you anywhere you go. This is great for people who have a cabin, or like to take their pet with them when they go places.
After you plug in the dog fence, all you have to do is set the range you want for your boundary. The system comes with flags to mark the edge of the boundary you set on the PIF-300. This system is the best on the market when it comes to this type of containment. It covers twice the range of any other wireless dog fence. With just one transmitter, you can cover an area up to 180 feet in diameter. That is plenty for most conventional yards. If you have a large area of land you want to cover, the great thing about this dog containment product is that you can purchase additional transmitters which allow you to increase the area of coverage. You can add more than two transmitters to this system. The only thing to remember when considering one of these containment products is that the transmitters are not waterproof, so each needs to be in a safe location where it is out of the weather.
The PetSafe Wireless Dog Fence is also great in the fact that it can be used with more than one pet. You can actually use it with an unlimited number of pets provided they all use the proper receiver collar, which are also available to you. It is also nice to know that the transmitters and collars are available separately just in case you need to replace part of the system and not all of it.
For those of us who like to camp or be outdoors, there are also power inverters available that allow it to be plugged in to your vehicle which is very nice because we all know what kind of troubles our pets can get in when in a new, exciting environment.
Remember that you must properly train your pet when using the PetSafe Wireless Dog Fence just like with anything else we do with them. There is a fantastic training guide and video that goes along with this unit, and it is also available on You Tube. This is a fantastic item, and uses some of the best technology in the business. It is a very humane way to keep your pet close by while giving him some freedom as well, provided the proper training techniques are used. If this is a product that interests you, I suggest you do some research and see if it is right for you and your dog.
Are You a Dog Owner Blindly Interested in a Wireless Dog Fence?
Do you get complaints from your neighbours about your dog escaping? If a dog is left to wander it can create problems in the neighbourhood. Being caught by the ranger or causing a traffic hazard could be very costly. As the owner of the dog you are responsible.
It is therefore very important that every owner keeps their pet securely on their own property. Physical fencing of the area may not be practical in some homes and other residential surroundings and some can still get out.
So what about an electronic fence? Using a radio Pet Barrier has gained popularity due to their ease of use and operation and how effective they are at keeping a dog safe.
How Electronic Fences Work?
A radio fence uses a wire that runs along the perimeter of the area containing the dog. Mostly the wire can be attached to an existing fence or buried underground. A radio signal is projected some distance from the wire.
An electronic receiver placed in a dog collar is worn by the dog which produces a beep followed by a mild static pulse when it approaches the wire. On receiving the beep and static stimulation the dog is trained to withdraw from the boundary area. Boundary flags are often used to signal the 'No-Go' zone during the initial training.
This fencing method is less expensive than traditional fencing and can be installed by a professional who will also complete the necessary training. Even if the area is irregular and uneven the radio fence wire can be adjusted to suit the layout of the property. It is common to be able to leave gates open once it is trained correctly.
What You Need to Know Before Training?
To be successful with electronic fences, extra care should be taken to train the dog, you should discuss your property, your fences and your dog's personality with an experienced fence provider. Incorrect selection or poor training could see your efforts and investment go to waste. The training should begin step by step so that the dog learns how to behave correctly at the boundary.
Train Using Low Stimulation First:
It is essential that low levels of stimulation are used during the training process. Using high levels initially, may result in fear and insecurity in the dog. Over doing it could create a 'Porch Sitter' where the dog sits at the back door too frightened and scared to enter the yard or area where dog fencing has been erected.
The dog collar (receiver collar) should have adjustable levels to start the electronic stimulation at a comfortable level and increase slowly. A dog that is scared of the radio Pet Barrier is more likely to rush through the system in a fear based response. Low levels help the dog understand the new boundary and make their own decision to stay inside the radio dog fence boundary.
The boundary line can be marked with small flags in order to teach the dog to stay inside the 'safe zone'. Only audible beeps should be applied for a few days, the trainer can just alert the dog to a safe withdrawal on hearing the beeps.
After a few days, the static stimulation the dog feels can be gradually increased through the adjustable levels on the receiver. Pretty soon the dog will be refusing to go past the boundary flags, a result that can be rewarded. Taking it slow helps the dog understand the boundary and prevents any run through. It is unwise to rely on the static stimulation; the training is crucial. The Flags can be removed at a later date.
After each training session the dog should be praised for his good behavior. It is better not to scold the dog as this approach may make the dog scared of the training area. The dogs should be monitored for a few days even after the training before leaving them alone in the yard with electric fencing or radio dog fencing.
Seek the advice of a professional before making a selection on the Pet barrier you need. Your dog's safety depends on it.
