How the Dog Fences Works?
The fence has an electric wire fitted with a transmitter and installed underground all around the borders of your acreage or SK property. This fence system works by giving out a beeping signal which is received by your dog’s radio collar, each time it (the dog) gets too close to the fence. If your dog continues to ignore the signals, a mild static shock is delivered via its collar to stop it from crossing the fence. However, the shock frequency can be adjusted to limit fear or harm to your dog.
Are Electronic Dog Fences Legal in SK?
Whether you are moving to a new home with pets that are a loving part of your family or you just brought home a new puppy, one of your first considerations is always going to be how you will contain your dogs to your own property. If you don't want to spend the time and money putting up a chain link or privacy fence, underground fences for dogs could be the perfect solution.
How They Work
Underground fences for dogs deliver a slight shock through a special collar every time the dog goes out of a designated area on your property. How intense the shock will be depends on the strength of the system you purchase, and most systems will have more than one setting so you can control the strength of the shock.
You will have to train your dog to understand where their limits are on your property, so it is a good idea to start out on the lowest shock setting and adjust higher only if your dog runs straight through the underground fence. Some systems will even be designed for small, medium, or large dogs, making it easier to find the suitable level of shock for your dog's body weight.
Underground fences for dogs are extremely safe. As long as you are using a system properly designed for the size of your dog and do not have the shock set extremely high, your dog will not be injured or put in severe pain if they do get a shock from time to time.
Most dogs will quickly catch onto their limits and happily remain inside the yard, which means they are never going to really be shocked anyway once they have gone through the initial training. To get your dog to that point, it is important to follow the training guidelines included with your underground fence.
Many underground fences for dogs come with wire which must be buried before you can start using the system. This is a fairly quick process and it allows you to determine the exact boundary lines for your dog. Other systems are wireless and will be much faster and easier to install, though some of them may be a bit more expensive.
Many people install underground fences for dogs on their own, though there are companies that will come to your home and do the work for you. It is more cost effective if you can do the burying on your own.
Underground fences for dogs can cost a fraction of the price of having an actual fence put up in your yard, and they are much faster to set up. It is always best to look around online first and determine what type of underground fence you want and what prices they are selling for. When comparing systems make sure you are including any extra collars that may be needed, or check to see if there is a system that offers multiple collars as a part of the package.
Keeping your dog on your property is crucial, but it doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. Underground fences for dogs make it easy, fast, and extremely cost effective.
Wireless Dog Fence - Easy to Setup and Maintain
Keeping your dog on your property where it belongs generally means building a fence. This is an expensive investment in your dog and property. If you live in a urban or suburban setting most likely you will have to apply for expensive building permits. However if you love your dog, have spent money and resources in training it may be good investment. Letting your dog out in the yard and knowing her will be there when come to let him in the house gives you peace of mind. As an alternative you can install a dog electric fence that is designed to keep your best friend at home without all the expense of a physical fence.
All electric dog fences use a buried wire that is located along the outside of the area that you want to confine your dog to. This buried wire acts as an antennae that is attached to the fences base unit or transmitter. The transmitter produces radio frequency that are picked up by the receiver on the dogs collar. There are two different dog electric fence designs. Electric dog fences that use electric stimulation work by giving your dog a warning tone as it approaches the location of the buried wire. If the dog continues to approach the buried wire it will receive an electronic correction. A second type dog electric fence also uses a warning tone as the dog approaches the wired but then uses a spray of citronella to correct the dog. In either case your dog will have to be trained to properly interact with the electric fence.
Your dog will need to be conditioned and trained before the dog electric fences become effective at keeping your dog safe at home. This training normally takes about 30 days to accomplish if your train your dog for about 45 minutes each day. Depending on the personality of your dog it may even take longer to complete this critical training. Electric dog fences do not always work with every dog. It should be noted that the fence systems that use the citronella spray have a much higher failure rate compared to those that use an electronic correction. In addition a dog can also condition themselves to the correction of both systems by quickly running through the correction zone of the fence. It is critical that the initial training be done thoroughly or your investment into the electric dog fence will be wasted.
Dog electric fences are obviously not as effective as a physical fence at protecting your dog and keeping it where it belongs. In addition even if your dog is restrained by the electric dog fence it does not keep stray dogs or other animals from entering the containment area and attacking your dog. A few years back a timber wolf killed a friends black Labrador retriever in Northern Michigan while it was controlled by a dog electric fence. Obviously a physical fence would have done a better job of protecting his prize hunting dog. Never the less electric dog fences are very popular with many dog owners.
Considering using an electric dog fence to contain your dog? Keeping your dog on your property where it belongs generally means building a fence. An electric dog fence may be a good alternative.
