How the Dog Fences Works?

The fence has an electric wire fitted with a transmitter and installed underground all around the borders of your acreage or Edson AB property. This fence system works by giving out a beeping signal which is received by your dog’s radio collar, each time it (the dog) gets too close to the fence. If your dog continues to ignore the signals, a mild static shock is delivered via its collar to stop it from crossing the fence. However, the shock frequency can be adjusted to limit fear or harm to your dog.

Radio Dog Fence

A wireless dog fence is one of many solutions that are now available to provide a safe and reliable boundary for your pet. One thing you must do as a pet owner is consider your animal's safety and well-being as a priority. Dogs must have some freedom throughout the day to go outside, excrete, have a run around and play for a while to keep them healthy and get them used to the whole environment they are in however it is essential they understand the boundary they are limited too.

When thinking about what type of fence to install for your animal you should take many things in to account such as what will happen if the animal tries to escape, will it hurt the pet, cost of installation and what size or shape the boundary is required to be.

Firstly a physical fence is a great solution however it may not be right when you consider some of the points mentioned above. Physical fences are good as they are physical, the dog can see the boundary and it should know that it isn't allowed past the physical barrier, however it is still possible for the dog to jump the fence and one that happens it is free to run. Another point is that if the dog tries to jump a fence and fails it could hurt itself considerably. The cost and size of a boundary come hand it hand however it is known that a physical fence will take longer and cost more to set up.

Wired underground dog fences can be a great alternate solution for this, but it still takes quite a lot of time to dig up the area where you want to lay down your boundary and then cover it up. This type of solution works in a similar way to a wireless dog fence in the fact that when the dog starts to approach the boundary it will receive a small electric shock. These shocks get stronger as the dog gets close to the actual boundary, and over time the dog will have a mental image of where the boundary actually lies. They are a slightly more cost effective solution but as mentioned above requires extra set up time.

Last but not least we have our wireless dog fence. These fences are 100% wireless and do no required anything more than a central unit to sit in the middle of the circumference of the boundary and a collar for the dog to wear. As mentioned above they work similar to the underground wired fence. As the dog moves closer to the boundary shocks are applied and if it gets too close / crosses the boundary the shocks will be significantly stronger. These are the best cost effective solution as some of them are relatively cheaper than the other types of fence; however the major downfall is some animal right activists have started giving those negative reviews.

Some dog owners have seen these great fences as a form of animal cruelty due to the electric shocks that are applied to the animal in order to force a mental barrier into its mind. When you are considering a wireless dog fence be sure to check out the strength of the shock and make sure you think it will be a safe and comfortable solution for your pet.

Are Invisible Dog Fences Worth the Money?

Best In Ground Dog Fence

Is an underground dog fence right for you and your dog? As suburbs continue to pop up around major cities, homeowners' associations are being formed and they are busy drafting policies. One of the main policies that they are enforcing is to restrict the size, the type and even the very existence of fences due to aesthetic reasons. They do not like the visual clutter associated with conventional fences.

If you live in such a neighborhood or if you are just looking for a less expensive and more maintenance free way to protect your dog, an underground dog fence is a good choice. These fencing systems consist of three components: a transmitter, underground wiring and a receiver placed on your dog's collar.

Transmitter. This must be mounted in a dry location like a garage or a shed and it must be near an electrical outlet which it will plug into. The transmitter will then emit a radio signal that will travel through the underground wiring.

Underground Wiring. This is a single strand of insulated wire that starts at the transmitter, goes around your property and then ends back at the transmitter. If you are installing an underground dog fence yourself, it is best to use something (a hose or spray paint) to give yourself a visual idea of where you want the wiring to go. You can also enclose vegetable gardens and swimming pools, or any other area where you do not want your dog to roam.

Receiver. A receiver will come connected to a collar that is lightweight and waterproof. You do not have to use the collar that comes with the system; you will be able to take off the receiver and put it on a collar that you already have. The receiver will need a battery that will probably need replaced about every three months. Some receivers come with a rechargeable battery so this is a good thing to inquire about before you purchase a system.

An underground dog fence will not harm your dog. It is recommended by vets and national humane societies; however, you will have to take the time to train your dog. Most systems offer three operating modes: a warning, a warning and a correction and a correction only. A dog must be trained to retreat back into the yard when they hear this warning. You will be surprised though at how quickly your dog will adapt its behavior to heed the warning and not go any further than the area you have laid out for them to roam. The best way to train them is to keep them on a leash since this is something most dogs are used to and you will also have control over their actions. A training video should be included with the system you purchase.

Knowing that your dog (this system works for cats as well) is getting the exercise they need and knowing that they are also protected from running out into the street with an underground dog fence, will give you piece of mind while you are away from your home. It will also give your dog the freedom they need to stay healthy and happy
